Does making the main character a female deter male readers?

I am writing an urban fantasy. I'm wondering about my main character. I'm more familiar with females, as I am one myself. The way I have the story working out in my planning wouldn't suit telling it from the lead males perspective. Do you think the gender of the main character effects the reception of the book? Or if a book is good enough, will potential readers be able to overlook this?
