Never really car shopped and i need a car.?

long story short my car was wrecked. i have 3500$ and am planning on buying from a dealership. whether its strait up or 3500$ down and make monthly payments to finish it off. no more than 5000$ total thought. what would you recomend. im a 21 year old security guard and drive around a good amount of time including a 30 minute drive to work 4 days a week. i also like to drive far places like the mountains to camp and snowboard n stuff. any help will me much appreciated. thanks.
