Why would an LG Chocolate suddenly become unable to text?

I've had my LG Chocolate for just over a year now and it's never done this to me but I was curious if it's happened to others. Basically Friday I was texting fine until I went in and told it to delete all of my past texts. Since I've "sent" a few but after having talked to the intended recipient the messages were never received. Likewise my friends have supposedly been texting me; all of which I've yet to receive as well. I plan to take it to Verizon within the week, but if it's happened to someone before or you have any quick fix suggestions they'd be greatly appreciated.
